Host Family Information
Host Family Expectations
During their stay in Morgantown, participants are scheduled to live with two to four different host families. This arrangement allows them to experience diverse aspects of American culture, as each household offers a unique perspective and environment. Community members who serve as host families provide participants with a welcoming living space and two meals per day, enriching the participants’ appreciation of life in the United States.
Serving as a CIP Host Family is a mutually rewarding experience. While host families share insights into American culture and daily life, participants also contribute by sharing their own cultural backgrounds, fostering a meaningful exchange of knowledge and understanding.
It is important to recognize that our participants are adult professionals. While they bring valuable experience and independence, they may also experience homesickness during their stay. Our Host Family network is designed to provide the stability and support necessary for participants to thrive.
Host families are expected to provide:
-A private sleeping room where the participant can relax and study.
-Breakfast and dinner on most days.
-Orientation to the household, including explanations of amenities such as showers, appliances, alarm systems, and any household routines or expectations regarding chores.
-Opportunities and invitations to participate in family experiences and outings, at the host family’s discretion.
-Support from a CIP liaison, who is assigned to each family to assist with any questions or concerns.
-Assistance with transportation as needed. Participants will receive WVU ID cards, which grant access to the local bus system and the Personal Rapid Transit system (PRT).
By opening your home, you play a vital role in supporting international professionals and building bridges of understanding within our community.
